The present problems can not be traced to one "simple" issue like an overloaded database-server. Strictly speaking the four database-servers are OK. The problems are caused by the 28 web-servers, which are not overloaded but say adiós due to mysterious reasons, which causes other servers to also break down.

If that happens, it takes a while for the website to get going again. That means that users are let through one after the other and that some users are already surfing on the website while others still see the offline page.

The website has grown significantly over the course of the last eight years and this is reflected by the complexity of the page - combined with all the features and functions it offers. Our web-developers are working on a complete new "core" for the ESL website to be prepared for the future. Unfortunately this will not happen overnight.

But after all, that's not important for you, the users and players. The page has to of course to be up and running. We try our best to ensure that with all possible resources, financially and personnel-wise. Ultimately, more than 100 Turtles whose job depends on the ESL cannot work when the site is offline.

P.S. Apart from the problems with the website availability, a bug in the e-mail routines occurred last night that sent thousands of e-mails by mistake. These were mostly "match mails" to teams and players. The bug has been fixed, but of course the emails have already been sent out.
